Melancholy Morning
Mornings can be moody when the winter trees are bare and no birds sing.
Produce at Weaver Street Market, Hillsboro NC

This is the tree most often "known" to me, after the climbing maple, from the front porch. It is the maple--the only maple--we sometimes tap for sap and syrup. Its silhouette against the morning dawn is a familiar sight with a cup of coffee, early on. This stylized view I created on my iPhone while waiting in the car for the wife who was grocery shopping. Birds added by an app called Enlight.
Gaps in the stacks at mid-winter but enough heat left to see us through. We've taken back another five feet from the nearest rank since this image was taken a few weeks ago. Snow has since been replaced by less-picturesque mud.
Abominable Snow Dog

I woke up from a catnap on the loveseat just before the sun would have dropped below the top of the window and blinded me. The dazzling light through the hanging glass orb (from a local glass artist and neighbor Tim Burke) was the first thing I saw when I opened my eyes. It startled me until I realized what I was seeing.
